Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 15, 2026
Last updated: May 15, 2026
Stock Market Hours operates stockmarkethours.org as a market-hours and trading-calendar utility. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you when you use the website.
The website is designed to provide reference information about exchange trading sessions, holidays, early closes, status labels, countdowns, and timezone conversions. It is not a brokerage, trading platform, financial adviser, investment adviser, or exchange.
1. Information we collect
We try to keep data collection limited to what is useful for operating a fast market-hours utility. The current MVP does not require an account, login, payment details, portfolio data, watchlists, broker connection, or any personal financial information.
Depending on how you use the site, we may process the following categories of information:
- Timezone preference: if you choose a timezone, the site stores that selected IANA timezone in your browser localStorage so the page can remember it after refresh.
- Browser-detected timezone: the site may read Intl.DateTimeFormat().resolvedOptions().timeZone in your browser to suggest your local timezone. This detection happens on your device.
- Device and usage information: standard server, hosting, CDN, security, and analytics logs may include IP address, user agent, referring URL, pages requested, timestamps, approximate location derived from IP address, and diagnostic events.
- Contact information: if you email us, we may receive your email address, name if provided, message content, and any information you choose to include.
2. How we use information
We use information for practical website operations and product improvement, including:
- Providing market-hours displays, local-time conversions, search, filters, status labels, and countdowns.
- Remembering your selected timezone on the same browser and device.
- Maintaining, debugging, protecting, and improving the website.
- Understanding aggregate usage patterns, such as which pages are visited and whether features are working as expected.
- Responding to questions, feedback, support requests, or legal requests.
- Preventing abuse, spam, scraping that harms service availability, fraud, security incidents, or unauthorized activity.
3. LocalStorage and cookies
The current MVP uses browser localStorage for the selected timezone. localStorage remains on your device until you clear it, reset browser storage, or change browsers/devices.
We may use cookies or similar technologies if needed for security, analytics, performance measurement, CDN operations, abuse prevention, or future consent preferences. If we add non-essential tracking technologies in the future, we will update this policy as appropriate.
4. Analytics, hosting, and infrastructure providers
The website may be hosted, delivered, protected, and measured using third-party infrastructure providers such as Cloudflare or similar services. These providers may process technical logs and request metadata to deliver pages, protect the site, measure reliability, and prevent abuse.
If we use privacy-conscious analytics, we aim to use the data in aggregate to understand site performance and feature usage. We do not use the site to collect brokerage credentials, trading orders, holdings, payment card data, or sensitive financial account information.
5. Market data and timezone data
The website uses static market-hours and holiday sample data for the MVP, plus browser and platform timezone APIs for display conversion. Market names, sessions, holidays, early-close information, countdowns, and status labels are provided for reference only.
Timezone conversion may depend on browser, operating system, or runtime timezone databases. We do not use your selected timezone to identify you personally; it is used to display session times in the timezone you choose.
6. How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We may share limited information with service providers and infrastructure vendors that help us operate, secure, host, debug, analyze, or improve the website.
We may also disclose information if required by law, legal process, government request, protection of rights, security investigation, prevention of abuse, or a business transfer such as merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, or sale of assets.
7. Data retention
Timezone preference stored in localStorage is retained in your browser until you remove it. Server, CDN, security, and analytics logs are retained for periods determined by operational, security, legal, and provider requirements.
Email messages and support requests may be retained as needed to respond, keep business records, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations.
8. Your choices
You can control several types of information directly:
- Change your timezone using the timezone selector on the website.
- Clear localStorage in your browser to remove the saved timezone preference.
- Use browser settings, privacy tools, or content blockers to limit cookies, analytics, or similar technologies where applicable.
- Contact us at contact@stockmarkethours.org with privacy questions or requests.
9. Children's privacy
The website is intended for a general audience interested in market-hours reference information and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.
10. International users
The website may be accessed from different countries and regions. By using the website, you understand that information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate. Privacy rights and obligations may differ depending on your location.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate for a small informational website. No website, network, or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You should avoid sending sensitive financial, brokerage, password, tax, or identity information through ordinary email or website feedback channels.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the website evolves. If changes are material, we will update the effective or updated date and may provide additional notice on the website. Continued use of the website after an update means the updated policy applies.
