London's equity market follows the bank holidays of England and Wales. A holiday elsewhere in the UK does not automatically mean the LSE is closed.

Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are shortened trading days in both years shown. The exchange starts its closing process at 12:30; this is not a promise that every auction or trading service finishes at that instant.

Key points

  • Dates are local to Europe/London, which switches between GMT and BST.
  • The tables list weekday closures and half days; weekends are closed as usual.
  • On-exchange trading, off-book reporting and settlement can have different schedules.

Christmas changes from one year to the next

The full Christmas closures fall on 25 and 28 December in 2026, then 27 and 28 December in 2027. Keep the half days on 24 and 31 December separate when planning orders.

Frequently asked questions

Does the LSE close on US market holidays?

Not simply because the US market is closed. London follows its own exchange calendar; compare the UK and US calendars before planning cross-market trades.

What happens at 12:30 on a half day?

The LSE begins its closing process at 12:30 London time. Auction and service-specific timings should be checked in the exchange's trading parameters.

Are these also settlement holidays?

This is a trading calendar. LSE lists separate settlement and off-book reporting arrangements, so a trading half day need not be a non-settlement day.
